Hampton University
Statement on African and Ukrainian Native Student Outreach Efforts
03/21/2022 - #85

Hampton University is an institution that has believed in helping students since its founding in 1868. Recently, Hampton has offered to assist those African and native Ukrainian students who are without a place to be educated because of the bombing by the Russians of their schools, hospitals, apartments and other civilian sites.

Helping people in need is not anything new for this caring and outstanding academic institution. Current students at Hampton receive approximately $ 30 million per year in privately endowed scholarship funding from the university. This does not include the approximate $ 73 million per year that students receive from the federal government. Two years ago, students from the Bahamas were assisted by providing them with free room, board and tuition when their north campus was obliterated by Hurricane Dorian.

Our President and our University have made it very clear that we will always help those in need no matter their race, sex, creed, color or country of origin. The desire is that others, instead of complaining, should do the same.
