HAMPTON, VA. (Oct 8, 2021) — Hampton University is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Jarris Louis Taylor, Jr., as the Director of Hampton University Online (Hampton U Online). Dr. Taylor also serves as the Director of the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute (WRHLI).

Dr. Taylor previously served as the Associate Director of the WRHLI and Honors College from 2006-2009. He later served as a member of the Senior Executive Service as Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for the Strategic Diversity Integration, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, in Washington, D.C. from 2009-2017 under President Obama’s administration. In this role, he was responsible for the policy, guidance, direction, and oversight of all plans and programs affecting diversity integration for Air Force military and civilian personnel. Dr. Taylor provided leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to all levels of the Air Force to ensure a diverse and inclusive Total Force.
A native of Baltimore, Md. Dr. Taylor earned the Doctor of Education degree in higher education administration from George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He retired from the Air Force in 2005 and has extensive experience in academia, research, community service, and fundraising.
