HAMPTON, VA. (July 29, 2021) — Hampton University alumnus Erik Terrell’s first comedy special, “Erik Terrell: LIVE at Helium Comedy Club,” will release on August 3rd on Amazon, AppleTV, Microsoft, Comcast, and all major cable platforms, including DirecTV and Dish.
Terrell is a big kid with a big heart. In this performance, he was filmed in a sold-out room as he returned to his "home club", Helium Comedy Club in Philadelphia. Supporting his Fantasy Football addiction and his loving new wife, Terrell headlines comedy venues along the East Coast and works regularly at various New York and Los Angeles Comedy Clubs, including Carolines on Broadway, Gotham Comedy Club, the Laugh Factory, the Stand, and New York Comedy Club, to name a few. Terrell was named one of Variety’s “Comics to Watch” at the New York Comedy Festival in 2019.
“To have Comedy Dynamics produce my debut Comedy Special for Amazon and a litany of other streaming platforms means a great deal to me,” said Terrell. “It's a professional milestone and a humbling experience. I just recently got used to calling myself a ‘professional’ comedian, and now I can say that I'm a ‘mainstream’ comedian. Every family member, college classmate, college professor, old friend, and comedy fan that I've ever met in my entire life can now grab the remote and watch me perform whenever they want. It's a wonderful new level of exposure.”
During his time at Hampton University, Terrell was president of the “Hampton Players” drama organization. After giving stand-up a shot on summer vacation in 2011after his sophomore year, Terrell quickly adopted a new identity as not only an actor, but also a stand-up comedian. In college, he hosted and performed on most of Hampton University’s Homecoming and Spring Fest Comedy shows. After graduating from the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications in 2013 with a degree in Broadcast Journalism and minor in Leadership Studies from the William R. Harvey Leadership Institute, he returned home to Philadelphia where he was soon picked up by Helium Comedy Club. There, he opened for Dick Gregory, Sam Morril, Dov Davidoff, Godfrey, Mark Normand, etc. He soon began headlining local shows and bussing himself back and forth to NYC to “stomp with the big dogs.”
“Performing at Hampton University got me started on the path towards pursuing my dreams in comedy,” said Terrell. “I left Hampton with clearly defined goals of pursuing stand-up comedy, but I came to Hampton to pursue radio. It was actually throughout my time at Hampton that I really found out what I wanted to do with my life; Hampton accelerated the process. They immediately began entrusting me to host Homecoming Concerts and Springfest Comedy Shows. With top billing comedians on those line-ups and crowds full of my Hamptonian counterparts, I had to grow up fast and rise to the occasion. I left Hampton with much more bravery and tough skin than the average 22-year-old Comedian.”
Terrell’s top prize-winning performance at the Conshy Comedy Fest in 2017 was instrumental in fueling a series of fortune for his stand-up career. In 2018, Terrell gave an opening performance for NBC’s National Dog Show in Philadelphia, and he produced and headlined his own show, “Officially Overseas,” at the Glasgow International Comedy Festival. He has been featured at over fifteen mainstream comedy festivals, including the Glasgow International Comedy Festival, New York Comedy Festival, Burbank Comedy Festival, Oak City Comedy Festival, Asheville Comedy Festival, and the North Carolina Comedy Festival. He filmed for Comedy Time TV in LA, and Carolines on Broadway featured him on “Carolines Presents” as one of New York’s best breakout comics.”
Erik Terrell: Live at Helium Comedy Club was filmed in 2018 and is produced by Comedy Dynamics. Terrell also has an album releasing on August 6th. It will be available on all of the streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, and SiriusXM.
