Getting a company like Yahoo to visit Hampton University took the efforts of the Computer Science Dept. Chair, Dr. Jean Muhammad, and HU Alumnus Lashanti Jenkins who now works for Yahoo as their Senior Manager of University Programs.
"Knowing the caliber of graduates from Hampton, I engaged with Dr. Muhammad to find out more about their computer science program,” said Jenkins.
With Jenkins’ busy schedule, Dr. Muhammad had only half a day to meet with Jenkins.
“I flew out there (New York) that morning and I was able to meet with her that afternoon. I had a proposal ready for her, so that I could let her know how Hampton University would like to partner with Yahoo,” said Dr. Muhammad.
A short while later, Yahoo made a donation of 80 servers. In addition, Yahoo sent several of their employees from their New York and California offices to recruit students.
