Women's Soccer Plays First-Ever On-Campus Game Friday

Hampton, Va. – The Hampton University women’s soccer team will play its first-ever on-campus home game on Friday afternoon at 4 pm when the Lady Pirates take on the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley at the Pirate Soccer Field.
The field is located behind the Convocation Center and behind the scoreboard of Armstrong Stadium.
Hampton (1-2-1) comes into the game after the first win in program history on Saturday when they defeated Hollins 5-0 in Roanoke. UTRGV (5-2-1) lost its last match on Sunday when they dropped a 1-0 decision at University of Texas El Paso.
Terisha Simmons leads Hampton with two goals, both coming in the win over Hollins on Saturday. Sydney Jackson recorded two assists on Saturday to lead the team in that category. Goalie Maya Andrews has played every minute in the four games so far for Hampton in the net and has 33 saves.
Junior Andreya Barrera leads UTRGV in goals (4), assists (2), points (10), shots (37) and shots on goal (18). Diandra Aliaga has scored three goals in their eight games for the Vaqueros. Kinga Szemik and Erika Gonzalez have basically shared time in the net this year with Szemik allowing one goal and Gonzalez allowing four.
This will mark the first-ever meeting between the schools and the first-meeting with a member of the Western Athletic Conference.
Hampton will return to action on Monday, September 26 when they visit Lincoln University (PA) for a 4 pm match with the Lions.
