The Hampton University Players Present 'Twelfth Night' By William Shakespeare

HAMPTON, Va. (November 6, 2019) – The Hampton Players & Company present "Twelfth Night" in the Little Theatre of Armstrong Hall on the campus of Hampton University on Friday, November 15 and Saturday, November 16 at 8 p.m., with matinee on Sunday, November 17 at 3 p.m.

One of Shakespeare’s most celebrated comedies, "Twelfth Night" is a complex web that begins when twins Viola and Sebastian are caught in a shipwreck off the coast of Illyria. Each believing the other to be dead, Viola begins impersonating Sebastian to find work in the home of the local nobleman, Duke Orsino. Very much alive, Sebastian has begun working for Lady Olivia, who has rejected Duke Orsino’s proposal of marriage. What follows next is a hilarious series of misunderstandings and mishaps. This is the perfect show for Shakespeare novices and experts alike, guaranteed to make you laugh out loud!

Mr. Ryan Quinn McIntire, the director of “Twelfth Night,” is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts at Hampton University. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance from Central Missouri State University and a Master of Fine Arts in Performance from Regent University.

This is his inaugural show at Hampton University, and he is honored for the opportunity and very grateful to his wonderful cast. Previous directing credits include “The Whale,” “Antigone,” “Words, Words, Words,” “Tartuffe: Or The Hypocrite,” “Dear Edwina,” and “Photographs from S21."

Mr. McIntire’s professional activity includes Fight Choreography, Stunt Work, Acting, and Directing. As an actor, some of his favorite roles have been Katurian in “The Pillowman,” Lopakhin in “The Cherry Orchard,” Judge Gaffney in “Harvey,” Jerry in “Betrayal,” and Mr. Kraler in “The Diary of Anne Frank”. He has been a choreographer and fight director for fifteen years, arranging combat scene for shows including “Macbeth,” “Romeo and Juliet,” “Twelfth Night,” “The Three Musketeers,” “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” “Death of a Salesman,” “Noises Off,” “Mr. Burns, A Post-Electric Musical,” “'Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson,”, as well as for numerous programs airing on Discovery Networks, TRU-TV, and the web series “Come Midnight."

Dr. C. Perry Otto is the scenic and light designer for “Twelfth Night.”  This is his twenty-fifth season with the Hampton Players. He has designed sets and lights for numerous Players’ productions such as “Mistletoe Jam,” “Black Nativity,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” “Stick Fly,” “Joe Turner’s Come and Gone,” “How I Learned To Drive,” “Dreamgirls,” “The Lion in Winter,” “Dearly Departed,” “The Bluest Eye,” “A Love To Call My Own,” “Blues for an Alabama Sky,” “A Raisin in the Sun,” “Macbeth,” “Smokey Joe’s Café,” “Grease,” “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “West Side Story,” “The Wiz,” “What Use Are Flowers?,” “Shakin’ The Mess Outta Misery,” “The Disappearance,” “Sasha and the Magic Cookie Maker,” “Tartuffe,” “Mama Dee’s Girls,” “Shakuntala,” “Dracula,” “Black Pearls,” “The Amen Corner,” “Steal Away,” “The Piano Lesson,” “The Emperor Jones,” “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?,” “40 Acres and A Mule (World Premiere),” “Once On This Island,” “One Mo’ Time” and “Equus."

"Twelfth Night's" energetic and talented cast includes Aaliyah Arnold, Nesiah Banks, Keith Bruce,  Tariq Cannady, Matt Cole, Lanijah Flagg, Elaina Flint, Kayla Harrison, Imani Johnson, Shanadiah Nicole, Kameron Peters, Ariana Richardson, Charles Robinson, Cameron Sanders, and Samantha Sawyer.

The Hampton Players and Company is a professionally run performing ensemble. The performers are not limited to the University stage, but have appeared on stages throughout the United States.
