HAMPTON, Va. (December 18, 2018) – The Hampton University Office of the University Chaplain is currently hosting their fourth annual Christmas Toy Drive located in Clarke Hall. The Hampton University Ministry-Student Christian Association has a goal each year to bless children and families with the gift of giving by donating hundreds of toys to local churches within the seven cities.
“Dr. Debra Haggins does an extraordinary job each year collecting toys for families in need. Each year Mrs. Harvey and I give generously to this wonderful cause. This is the season of giving and I am thrilled to continue to see the success of this Christmas Toy Drive in the years to come,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.
For the last four years, the Office of the University Chaplain has been collecting toys for needed families across the Peninsula. Targeting children from the ages of three to twelve years old, toys, games, books, educational games, school supplies, hats, gloves, socks, scarves, electronic toys and scooters are all suggested donations to help families in need have a Merrier Christmas.
“We have been hosting a toy drive because we know there are families out there who could use some assistance during Christmas time. Last year, we received over $2,000 worth of toys from campus donations,” said Rev. Dr. Debra Haggins. “It’s a joyous time of the year and it’s the season of giving. It’s just a joy and a pleasure for us to be able to give to people who need it and to make kids smile.”
“The Christmas Toy drive conducted by the Office of University Chaplain is an amazing way to give back to the less fortunate. God has blessed us in ways that are unthinkable, and because he has blessed us, we should go back and be a blessing to others,” said Trevor Hutson, President of the Campus Student Ministry. “We are now collecting gifts in Clarke Hall until December 21st. We are taking toys, games, puzzles, school supplies and anything you can think of to put a smile on these children’s faces. Some of the members of Campus Ministry assist in organizing and boxing the toys together to send out to the various families. We thank you for all of your support and donations, and never forget, Jesus is the Reason for the Season!”
