HAMPTON, Va. (March 19, 2019) - LTC (Ret.) James “Jim” A. Johnson transitioned peacefully at home Wednesday, March 13, 2019. Mr. Johnson was born July 2, 1925, in Whaleyville to Junius and Margaret Johnson.

The Johnsons moved to Hampton while he was very young. After returning home, he attended Hampton Institute, was commissioned and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was a postman in Hampton for over 40 years. After his retirement from the post office, he was a substitute teacher in the school systems of Hampton and Newport News.

Mr. Johnson was very active in his church and served in many capacities. He was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.
