HAMPTON, Va. (Oct. 8, 2019) — Vote for the Hampton University Marching Force to perform at the 2020 Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase held on January 25, 2020 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in Atlanta, Ga.
“The Hampton University family is extremely proud of ‘The Marching Force’ for continuing to be THE Standard of Excellence. The Honda Battle of the Bands will provide great exposure for Hampton University as a whole and we continue to look forward to the success of our band under the leadership of Dr. Thomas Jones. A vote for The Force is a vote for ‘Our Home By The Sea.’ Vote now, and vote often,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.

Eight bands are chosen to advance to the Honda Battle of the Bands Invitational Showcase. Four bands are selected through public online voting on Honda’s website and four are selected via committee.
“The Honda Battle of the Bands is a yearly event aimed at showcasing the top HBCU bands in the country,” said Dr. Thomas Jones, Hampton University Director of Bands. “For The Marching Force, this also gives us a great opportunity to recruit and market for all of Hampton University, being that Georgia is a hotbed for students who are not only musically talented, but who are also academically proficient and uphold high moral character.”
The Honda Battle of the Bands was created to celebrate, support and recognize the excellence of Black college marching bands and the unique academic experience offered by Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). Honda annually awards approximately $200,000 in grants to participating marching bands during the program period.
