HAMPTON, Va. (January 31, 2020) – Hampton University and Wendy’s hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, January 24, to officially open the newest Wendy’s restaurant near campus, located in The Shops at Hampton Harbor. The address is 1006 Settlers Landing Rd., Hampton, VA, 23669.
Hampton University’s President, Dr. William R. Harvey, welcomed the faculty, staff, students, and community members that had assembled for the official Wendy’s grand opening.
“I want to welcome everyone to this very auspicious occasion. One of the reasons why we are here is because we try to look out for our students. For 42 years, I have met with student leadership once a month, and one of the things that they talked about was that we needed another first-class restaurant. Now, we have the best,” said Dr. Harvey.
Hampton University and Wendy’s representatives cut the ribbon in front of the restaurant for the official grand opening.
“Wendy’s is a great addition, especially for students to have somewhere to eat, or to congregate without having to Uber or travel a far distance to get there. It’s a really great way of showing that the student body and the President’s Office really work together, to try to fit the needs of the students,” said Armohn Erskine, Hampton Senior Class President, business management major from Atlanta, GA.
The new restaurant is also looking to hire Hampton University students.
“We have a total of five managers and approximately 30 crew members working at this location, and we want to hire a lot of Hampton University students. We love the flexibility that students have with their schedules and we can work around their classes so they can work when they are available. We also want some HU students to go into management with us; that’s one of the things we really want to do, and also foster that relationship around campus,” said Karen Brooks, District Manager for Wen GAP, a family owned Hampton Roads franchisee of Wendy’s Restaurants.
This Wendy’s location is open 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. every day.
