HAMPTON, Va. (July 3, 2019) – Hampton University Softball player Mo’ne Davis is spotlighted in Sports Illustrated’s latest “Where Are They Now?” feature. The iconic magazine sat down with Hampton’s newest softball player five years after making history in the Little League World Series. In the sit down interview with Hampton alumnus Shemar Woods ’11, Davis talks about what she has been doing over the last five years and the reasons why she chose to attend Hampton University.
Davis played many sports throughout her life including soccer, basketball, baseball, and softball. Davis decided that playing softball at the next level would be best. Davis chose to attend an HBCU because it would allow her the first opportunity to be around a majority of African American students after attending predominantly white schools most of her life.
Another major factor for Davis choosing Hampton University was her desire to major in Journalism and Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications’ Dean, B. DaVida Plummer. The two met during Davis’ official on campus visit and instantly developed a strong connection. Davis is ready and looking forward to attending the university this fall.
