Hampton University International Students Help Aid those Affected by Hurricane Florence
10/24/2018 - #82

HAMPTON, Va. (October 24, 2018) – Hampton University students stepped up to help aid those who were affected by devastating Hurricane Florence in September, 2018. Over 15,000 people were affected by the hurricane.

Under the leadership of Mrs. Carolina Butler, coordinator for the Hampton University International Office, several international students assembled more than 70 personal hygiene bags, with individual notes of encouragement.

These care packages were then mailed to Hands with Hearts, a non-profit Christian organization, in North Carolina. The International Office staff encouraged the international students to participate as a way to give back to their community. The students who participated were enthusiastic about serving and eager to fill as many bags as possible. Although it is devastating to witness such tragedy, the International Office was grateful to be part of a supportive community as a member of the Hampton family.

Special thanks are being extended to the Hampton University School of Science for donating bags, and Mrs. Kristie Cansler in the Graduate College, for personally donating several items.
