HAMPTON, Va. (January 17, 2020) – The Virginia Arts Festival and SevenVenues are co-hosting “We Shall Overcome: A Celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., ft. Damien Sneed” on Friday, January 31st at the Attucks Theatre in Norfolk, Va. The Hampton University Concert Choir will be featured in the show. Hampton invites you to come support our students as they show their talent.
“We are incredibly proud of our Hampton University Concert Choir for being selected to participate in this historic performance, honoring one of the greatest leaders of our time. Our choir is a group of immensely talented musicians, and they continue to be one of Hampton’s biggest billboards,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.
Inspired by the words and action of Dr. King, “We Shall Overcome” fills the historic Attucks Theatre with music that has electrified generations of civil rights activists, interwoven with spoken word from Dr. King’s recorded speeches. Featuring award-winning producer and musical director Damien Sneed, audience members will hear traditional and modern gospel, classical, jazz and more. The entire performance is sure to be an inspiring evening of song.
“Damien Sneed is an internationally acclaimed artist and we are honored that the Hampton University Concert Choir will share with him. This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to collaborate with professionals in the performance arena, while simultaneously educating audiences on civil rights through the artistry of music,” said Omar Dickenson, Director of University Choirs.
