HAMPTON, Va. (June 5, 2019) – Over 1,700 guests joined Hampton University for the 14th Annual Easter by-the-Bay E-G-G-stravaganza on Saturday, April 20 in the Convocation Center. Due to inclement weather Friday night, the event was moved to the Convocation Center, and the event committee and staff worked diligently to ensure this year’s E-G-G-stravaganza was a success.
“Hampton University has been providing this free, action packed event to members of the community for the past 14 years, and this year was no exception. We are proud to provide a safe place for parents to bring their children to, and enjoy a day of fun on our beautiful campus,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.
Parents, aunts and uncles, grandparents, guardians and kids enjoyed an action packed event filled with bounce houses, face painting, a bubble station, painting station, free snacks, and of course Easter eggs, all provided completely free. The entire family enjoyed entertainment from a live DJ, and Bubbles-the-Clown, plus HU’s Mr. Pirate and PJ Masks’ Cat Boy and Owlette, Shimmer, Shine and the Easter Bunny, were there to meet and greet each guest.
One of the newest exhibits this year was the Butterfly Safari where children and adults were able to feed live butterflies in a portable greenhouse, filled with thousands of butterflies of all colors and sizes. Not only was this fun for each individual, it served as an educational and learning component for the event.
“We were delighted to welcome over 1,700 children and families to our 14th Annual Easter by-the-Bay Egg-stravaganza. This event is a means to inviting the community to our beautiful ‘Home by the Sea,’ and to be a part of the stellar Hampton experience. It truly has become a staple within our community,” said Evelyn K. Graham, Hampton University Interim Vice President for Development.
