Hampton, Va. - Hampton University celebrated Constitution Day September 16, 2016 at the William R. & Norma B. Harvey Library.
In September of 1787, the founding fathers signed the most important document in American History, The United States Constitution. Constitution Day celebrates the signing of the U.S. Constitution. Constitution Day commemorates the formation and signing of the U.S. Constitution by thirty-nine brave men on September 17, 1787.
Most Americans are aware of the First and Second Amendments which grant the rights of Freedom of Speech and the Right to Bear Arms. However, many Americans are not aware of many of the other rights granted to them in the constitution as well as the history behind this historic document.
“The staff and resources at the Harvey Library seek to make patrons more knowledgeable and aware of these rich resources for scholarly engagement and to increase knowledge of the rights granted by the Constitution,” said Timothy Woodard, Harvey Library government documents coordinator.
To celebrate Constitution Day a display was setup in the atrium of the library where free pocket constitutions were made available to students.
