HAMPTON, Va. (October 12, 2018) - On Thursday, September 27, the Hampton University Career and Counseling Center hosted its annual career fair for current students at the Convocation Center. Hampton University students filled the building dressed in business professional attire, ready and eager to speak with various companies.
“This is a great opportunity for Hampton students of all classifications to be exposed to potential employers. Fortune 500 companies from all over the country attend this fair because they know they will meet the brightest and best students,” said Hampton University President, Dr. William R. Harvey.
Recognizing the talent and academic excellence that Hampton University students offer, 118 employers attended the fair, soliciting internships and direct hire positions. Government agencies, corporations, and education institutions from all over the country had the opportunity to acquaint students with their organizations.
“We want Hampton University students to be well-rounded. So, connecting the real world with academics is a great way for students to interact with employers to find out what skills and competencies they will need to compete globally,” said Bessie Willis, Career Center Director. “The Career Center wants students to go out to represent Hampton University well and eventually become someone’s BOSS! Therefore, giving students the opportunity to interact with employers makes them more aware of what the job market requires. Students are able to build competencies and skills as they pursue their academic degree.”
Each school year, the Career Center hosts two career fairs – one in September and one in February. Following this fair, the Career Center will start preparing for the next event, reaching out to employers to recruit all majors and alumni.
“This summer, I interned with Lockheed Martin and they’ve offered me a full-time position after graduation with their company,” said Haywood Nobles, Senior, Computer Information Systems major. “While attending this career fair, I was also offered a position with DXC Technology, but I will continue to speak to other employers throughout this fair to learn about other companies as well.”
