HAMPTON, Va. (May 22, 2018) – Hampton University, a leader among the world’s mid-size colleges and universities, has reached new heights by raising over $700,000 at the Anniversary Gala – reveling the University’s 150th Anniversary and the 40 years of leadership of Hampton University’s President, Dr. William R. Harvey.
“This year, we celebrated 150 years of this world-class institution as well as my 40 year tenure as President,” said Dr. Harvey. “Hampton University is grateful for the overflowing support from our students, alumni, faculty, staff, friends and sponsors. Their continued financial commitment to Hampton University demonstrates their confidence in our academic, research and medical programs and the direction that the university is going.”
Breaking a record with over 180 sponsors, Hampton University generated over $700,000, soliciting a variety of constituency groups such as businesses, foundations, alumni, and overall friends of the university. Proceeds from the Gala will be donated to the Hampton University Proton Therapy Institute.
“It has been one of the most successful years for the university,” said Evelyn Graham, Interim VP for Development. “I had the pleasure of sitting on the committee this year and we were very successful in our planning. It was a delight to see the overwhelming support Hampton University has.”
Following the Anniversary Gala held in April at the Hampton Roads Convention Center, the university reached a new milestone with the support of sponsors, along with Gourmet Services being the premier sponsor during this legacy year.
Closing the anniversary year, Hampton University will continue to celebrate this once in a lifetime milestone by hosting the National Association of African American Museum Conference in August 2018. This event is expected to host more than 400 people from across the country in support of the 150th anniversary of Hampton University's African American History Museum.
