HAMPTON, Va. — The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) announced its reaffirmation of accreditation for Hampton University. The reaffirmation continues HU’s accreditation through 2028.

“Hampton University’s faculty, staff and students are doing exemplary work in the areas of academics, research and service,” said HU President Dr. William R. Harvey.  “The reaffirmation of accreditation by SACS Commission on Colleges for 10 years, verifies the Hampton University community’s dedication to continuous growth and improvement in and outside of the classroom.”

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the southern states.  The Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) is a key component of the reaffirmation process. The Commission expects that each institution is dedicated to enhancing the quality of its programs and services within the context of its mission, resources and capabilities.

The QEP is a 5-year plan that focuses on learning outcomes and the environment supporting student learning. Hampton University’s plan, “Preserving Our 3 Cs: Character, Community, and Culture,” was developed with input from faculty, staff, students, administrators, and alumni. It is designed to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of the role of character, community, and culture – the 3 Cs – in the personal and professional lives of all members of the Hampton University community.  In addition, the QEP will actively engage students in programs and activities that promote character building, community service, and cultural awareness – key qualities for their success at Hampton University and beyond.

“In keeping with the Hampton University Mission Statement, the ultimate goal of Hampton University’s QEP is to prepare promising students for positions of leadership and service to meet and exceed expectations of the emerging 21st century global economy,” said Harvey. “Character plays a very important role in your being successful and in obtaining an education at Hampton University. We believe that character is the foundation of any life well-lived or any successful career.  We hold fast to our charge to build character, and we endeavor at every opportunity to push forward in thought, speech, and deed the moral values implicit in our original mission – the values of honesty, decency, integrity, a sense of justice and fair play, a respect for university policy and property, and a respect for one’s self and one’s fellow man.”
