CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Oct.29, 2019) – The Hampton men's basketball team was picked fourth in the preseason basketball poll announced Tuesday morning at the Big South Media Day and Jermaine Marrow was named to the preseason first team All-Conference squad.

Radford was preseason picked to win the league with 13 first-place votes and 299 points to edge out tournament champion Gardner-Webb with 14 first-place votes and 295 points.  Winthrop took the other two first-place votes for a third place pick and 253 points as Hampton was picked fourth with 198 points.

After finishing one point shy of the Pirates single season record of 855 held by Rick Mahorn, his 854 points was the most in a NCAA Division I-era season for Hampton University. He has already rewritten the Pirates record books as he finished first in both single season free throws attempted (269) and free throws made (218).
Marrow also finished with the fourth highest single season points total in Big South Conference history along with the seventh highest single season scoring average in Big South Conference history (24.4). He ended his junior season with 1,987 points and is within striking range of Rick Mahorn's 2,418 career points.

Hampton opens its season on November 6 hosting Mid-Atlantic Christian at 7 pm.
