Hampton University
HU to host Military Salute
09/26/2012 - #18

Hampton University will host Military Salute on Saturday, Sept. 29 at Armstrong Stadium.  The festivities will begin at 4 p.m.  The Hampton vs. Bethune-Cookman game will begin at 6 p.m.   All military personnel and their families are invited to attend.

The pre-game show will feature a joint performance by the HU band The Marching Force and the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band.  Military recruiters from all branches will be present. During the game there will be a joint color-guard presentation, video tribute to military personnel, Army and Air Force assets on display and a cannon will be fired as each HU touchdown is scored.  There will also be a tribute to the Wounded Warriors and a salute to all military personnel during half-time.

The Pirates (0-3, 0-1 MEAC) fell 44-20 to Florida A&M in their conference opener on Sept. 15, while the Wildcats (2-2, 1-0 MEAC) fell 21-14 to Tennessee State this past Saturday.

The Pirates are 9-8 all-time against Bethune-Cookman, though the Wildcats have won the last four meetings – including a 35-31 win in Daytona Beach, Fla. last season. Hampton last defeated Bethune-Cookman in 2007, when the Pirates left Armstrong Stadium with a 31-24 win.

The two teams first met in 1995, when the Pirates won 34-14. In fact, HU won the first three meetings before the Wildcats picked up their first win against HU, 14-13, in 1998.

The Pirates are 4-4 all-time against Bethune-Cookman at Armstrong Stadium.

Tickets are $25 for reserved seats, $20 general admission, $15 for military and $2 for children. For more information call 757-727-5012.
