The Hampton University School of Nursing (SON) Dean, Dr. Deborah Jones, was recently appointed to the board of Bon Secours Mary Immaculate Hospital. The appointment is until Dec. 31, 2016.
At HU, Jones teaches research and philosophy courses in the nursing doctoral program. As part of the board, Jones will provide in-depth knowledge of healthcare delivery, and valuable information on the education preparation of nursing students.
“I am thrilled and honored to have been selected as part of this board. Particularly in light of healthcare reform and the fact that the percentage of nurses on healthcare boards remains low, it is imperative that the voice of nurses, those who are hands on in the field, is heard on this level,” Jones said.
Jones, who has been at HU three years, spent the majority of her career in cardiovascular disease nursing, including patient care, nurse management, nursing research, and community outreach. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International, National League for Nurses, Southern Nursing Research Society, The American Nurses Association (ANA), The Maryland Nurses Association and the Virginia Association of Colleges of Nursing. Her previous academic positions were at The Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing and the University Of Maryland School Of Nursing.
