Hampton, Va – The Hampton University Musical Arts Society and Department of Music present "Backstage with Louis Armstrong" on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 8 p.m. in Ogden Hall.
The performance is a solo biographical show on the great jazz trumpeter, vocalist, and international ambassador of "swing" Louis Armstrong. Playwright and performer Danny Mullen portrays the legendary jazzman wonderfully and will leave his audience with a standing ovation.
Mullen takes his audience on a journey back in time to discover the personal life of Armstrong within the subjects of poverty, racial struggles, jealousy, and even heartbreak.
Mullen imitates Armstrong’s legendary vocals in songs like “Moon River,” “Do You Know What It Means to Miss New Orleans,” “What Did I Do to be so Black and Blue,” “A Kiss to Build a Dream On,” “Hello Dolly,” and many other great hits.
