HAMPTON, Va. -- Hampton University defensive back standout Christian Angulo was signed on Wednesday afternoon to the San Francisco 49ers practice squad.  He originally signed with the New York Giants in May.

"I am extremely excited for Christian and his family," said Hampton University head coach Robert Prunty.  "Christian stated to me that he came to Hampton to get his degree, make the NFL and get closer to God.  It doesn't get any better than that."

A 23-year-old native of Gibsonton, FL, Angulo appeared in 10 games for the Pirates, where he registered 18 tackles, 14 passes defended and three interceptions. He transferred to Hampton from the University of Cincinnati where he appeared in 11 games for the Bearcats.

Angulo was the Defensive MVP of the Chicago Football Classic with five pass breakups, three tackles and one interception in the win over Howard.  He finished fifth in FCS with 14 pass breakups with a season high four tackles against Monmouth.  Angulo was also named to the Big South All-Academic team, along with being a second team All-Big South Conference honoree.
