Commissioning Day for a Coast Guard Ensign
06/24/2019 - #289

HAMPTON, Va. (June 24, 2019) – The day was perfect for commissioning a Hampton alumnus into the Officer Corps. Curtis Banks, SSgt, U.S. Air Force, HU Class of 2015, transitioned from the Air Force into the Coast Guard, and was then commissioned as an Ensign.

The ceremony was conducted at Langley AFB, with the sounds of Freedom in the background. The journey for Ensign Banks to the Officer Corps took eight years and ten months. He was turned down by the Air Force, and then reached out to the Coast Guard and was selected as primary for selection this year. Ensign Banks has spent all of his military service in the field of Intelligence and will also serve in that capacity in the Coast Guard. His assignment will be at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington DC., so he won't be too far from his Home by the Sea. Congratulations!
