HAMPTON, Va. (November 8, 2018)–Thirty-six Cadets woke up early Wednesday morning to catch a bus heading to Washington D.C. for the purpose of attending the United States Army Cadet Command Senior Leader Development Conference.
The Cadets took a charter bus from Hampton University to Washington D.C. and upon arrival, Cadets greeted Cadets. In attendance, ther wer between 600-700 Cadets from the United States Military Academy at West Point to the North, NC A&T to the South, and West Virginia, in addition to Junior ROTC cadets from the localities near and far. One General Officer mentioned that this was the largest gathering of Cadets at one time, outside of Summer Camp.
Once inside the auditorium, LTG Robert Ferrell, Class of 1983, served as the moderator for the panel of Senior Leaders. This conference was his "brain child" more than five years ago. Lt. Claude Vann III, heard CPT Green, Hampton APMS, tell our Cadets he had never been in a room with as many General Officers in his career.
Congressman Anthony Brown, 4th Congressional District of Maryland, fresh off his re-election victory, shared his experience as an Army Aviator and JAG officer. He also opened up the floor for questions which were so numerous that it had to be cut off.
LTG Robert Ferrell was inducted into the 2018 US Army Cadet Command, Hall of Fame by the Commanding General, MG Evans. LTG Ferrell is only the third Hamptonian to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
The Panel of distinguished officers included: LTG Luckey, LTG Piggee, LTG Bingham, MG Bramhill, MG Evans, MG Dingle,BG Berger, BG Crosland, BG Jones, BG Ryan. Once again, the Cadets had many more questions to ask than there was time to entertain.
