HAMPTON, Va. (July 24, 2020) –CDR(R) Robert Clements, Class of 1988, shared a Great story about a young lady, who had a desire to fly and now she has her wings and is flying the Navy's P-8. Lieutenant Junior Grade (LTJG) Shanice Wormley graduated in 2018 from Hampton University and completed flight school April 2020. She is now stationed in Jacksonville, FL and is currently working towards a Naval Air Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS) qualification on the P-8A Poseidon at VP-30, the Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance (MPR) Fleet Replacement Squadron(FRS).
This miraculous story begins in January 2013 while she was sitting in her guidance counselor's office during her senior year, telling the counselor about her dream to become a pilot.
Although she was not a Navy JROTC Midshipman, CDR Clements invited Wormley to attend an orientation field trip to Hampton where she was interviewed and subsequently selected for a Navy Scholarship for the Fall 2013 semester. She was a Flight Education major, and she served as a HU Fighting Pirate Drum Major before leaving Hampton. Here we have a young lady who did not have any Military aspirations and now she is a Military pilot looking to make a career of the Navy. Now if that does not give you goose bumps, go to the doctor and get checked out!
