Hampton Students Encouraged to Compete in Yellow Cab of Hampton Mural Contest

by Ryan Jordan '16

Hampton University art students are invited to participate in a public art contest. Yellow Cab of Hampton is accepting mural design submissions and the winning design will be painted on the wall of 12 S. Armistead Avenue in historic Downtown Hampton, Virginia.

The Yellow Cab of Hampton Mural Contest is open to Hampton Roads college students studying art or graphic design. The deadline for submissions is midnight on February 29, 2016. Yellow Cab will chose the 10 designs to post on the project website from March 14-March 20, where the public will be allowed to vote daily for their favorite mural.

"We can't wait to see the entries our local college art students submit to our mural contest. We know their creativity will enhance and energize our community," said Judy Swystun, Vice-President of Yellow Cab of Hampton.

On March 21, Yellow Cab will share the top three designs that received the most votes on the website. Then, Yellow Cab will choose a winner from the three finalist. An Award Event will be held on March 26, 2016 for the finalists. Prizes for the Yellow Cab of Hampton Mural Contest include $250 for 3rd place, $500 for 2nd place, and a grand prize of $2,500 to the winner!
