Miss Virginia Plus America
Hampton University Alumna Ynette Evans was crowned Miss Virginia Plus America 2015. As a result, she will compete with women from all over the world in the Miss Plus America Elite Pageant.
Evans graduated from HU in 2009 with a B.S. in Marketing and a concentration in Public Relations. She currently works in the William R. and Norma B. Harvey Library as an administrative assistant to the director.
Evans, a native of Willingboro, N.J., said she was drawn to pageantry after modeling in hair and plus-size fashion shows.
"I wanted to participate in the Miss Plus America pageant because I thought it would be something fun to do and I like what they stand for," she said. "The MPA pageant believes in supporting full-figured women who are active in their communities. This pageant gives the opportunity to show our beauty inside and out and gives a platform to promote our causes."
Evans' platform is "Health at Every Size." She currently volunteers with the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.
"I believe that no matter what size you are, it is important to take care of yourself physically, mentally, and spiritually," she said.
Miss Plus America Pageant Executive Director Phillip Bailey said Evans is an ideal candidate for the pageant.
"The Miss Plus America Pageant System is unlike any other pageant concept. It celebrates the inner beauty of each contestant, as well as recognizing the commitment to their communities," he said. "We are proud to have (Ynette) as a state titleholder."
The Miss Plus America Elite Pageant is in Atlanta, Ga. in July.
