The Hampton University Student Recruitment Team works in conjunction with the Office of Admission to recruit top students to Hampton University. The group operates as an arm of the university, even traveling offsite to represent their 'Home By The Sea.' As the University's largest, free recruiting event approaches, High School Day, the Student Connection spent some time with SRT President Janae Hilton to see role SRT plays in planning this event and others.
Q: What is the purpose of SRT?
A: The purpose of the Student Recruitment is to assist the office of admissions with recruiting prospective students to Hampton University. We do not only give tours six days a week, but we also help to prepare for High School Day, Fall Open House ad Honors Visitation Weekend.
Q: What does the group do to prepare for High School Day?
A: SRT plays a vital role in the preparation of High School Day. As a team, we help assist the office admissions with the layout of the morning and afternoon program, create multiple tour routes for members to abide by, and we are responsible for the soundstage that is in conjunction with WHOV. We hold numerous meetings to ensure that all persons involved are on the same page to help High School Day run as smoothly as possible.
Q: How many members are there in SRT?
A: This year our team is the biggest it has ever been. We now have 71 members on SRT and this spring we are looking forward to adding 80 new members to our roster.
Q: As the president of SRT what are some of your duties?
A: As president of SRT, my main goal is to ensure the morale of the team stays positive. I am the active liaison between the office of admissions and the members on the team. Also, I am the chairperson for the Local Recruiting Committee. As chairperson, my committee members and I, help promote for Hampton University in the Hampton Roads area by attending high school college fairs, college seminars, and admission sites.
Q: What would you say to students that are interested in joining SRT?
A: If you love your "Home by the Sea" and want to join a fun, family orientated organization, I encourage you all to come to our interest meeting at 5 p.m., March 28, in the Student Center Theatre.
