Hampton University held its annual Martin Luther King Jr. march and ceremony Jan. 20. The event began with a student led march that began at Emancipation Oak and ended at Ogden Hall.
The event's keynote speaker was Kirk T. Houston Sr., Pastor of Gethsemane Community Fellowship Baptist Church and Norfolk Public Schools School Board Chairman. He encouraged the audience to remember King's influence.
More than 100 Hampton University students took a bus trip to the inauguration of President Barack Obama in Washington, D.C. Students, and some faculty and staff, left campus at midnight Jan. 21 and braved frigid temperatures and hours of standing, to witness Obama being sworn into the office of the president for the second time.
