As we enter the 2012-2013 academic school year, I would like to first extend a heartfelt welcome to the newest addition to our campus, the Class of 2016! We are excited that you're now part of the Hampton family. As the Student Government Association (SGA) president, it is my job to ensure your time at HU is exciting, socially and academically.
Be sure to enjoy all that the campus offers and follow us @HU_SGA, and the official HU twitter, @_Hamptonu, to stay abreast of what's going on and to offer your input and encouragement to the student body.
The new, waterfront Hampton University Dining Hall is complete. The two-story facility overlooks the Hampton River and gives diners an exquisite view of Downtown Hampton. The space, which received its first diners in August, replaces the Virginia Cleveland cafeterias.
HU initiated a $25 million campaign to build the new cafeteria in October 2006. Through many generous donations from alumni, ground was broken on the 100,000 square foot, dining hall in September 2010. One form of donation for the cafeteria was the purchasing of glass panels for $5,000, which could bear individual or groups of names. Donors' names are etched on the windowpanes.
Students groomed and tended to horses at the HU Mallory Street stables as part of the Young Diplomats program.
Every summer Hampton University hosts several summer programs that are open to children as young as five and as old as 17. The programs are hosted by various University schools and departments, and expose students to everything from horseback riding to medical careers.
