Congressman & Civil Rights Activist John Lewis HU Graduation Speaker

The Hampton University graduating Class of 2015, Ogre 15, will have U.S. Congressman and Civil Rights Activist John Lewis as the commencement speaker at the May 10 ceremony.

In addition to his service representing Georgia’s fifth district since 1987, Lewis is well known for leading the marched deemed, “Bloody Sunday” where he and more than 600 protesters attempted walking across the Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma, Ala. March 7, 1965.

English Majors Accepted into UNCF Mellon/Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program

Hampton University is pleased to announce Sophomores Aaron Farmbry and Al-Majid Edwards were accepted into the UNCF Mellon/Mays Undergraduate Fellowship Program.

The UNCF Mellon/Mays Programs are designed with the goal of strengthening the number of qualified minority faculty within the Academy. The mission of the program is to transform the Academy by creating a pipeline of undergraduates who will pursue the Ph.D. with the sole intention of becoming faculty members. As fellows, students receive semester stipends, annual travel stipends, and funding to support research activities and GRE preparation.
