Hampton University: Continuing to Move ForwardDear Hamptonians, Hampton University first and foremost has always been an institution tailored to the mission of molding and educating future leaders. President Harvey stated that we are proud of the culture and students at Hampton University, including the way they respectfully addressed their matters of concern in the recent town hall meeting. These annual meetings were established by President Dr. William R. Harvey thirty years ago. Since the February meeting, administrators and student leaders have been in constant communication. What follows is a look at the numerous previously planned quality of life projects already underway as well as an overview of future plans to further improve the student experience at Hampton University: FOOD SERVICES At the request of Dr. Harvey, SGA president, Martha Baye identified 10 students to serve on the Food Services Working Group. In an effort to bridge the gap between the Administration and Students, the Title IX Office at Hampton University, along with a committed group of students, formed the Red Flag Campaign Taskforce. This student-led taskforce was formed to promote awareness and educate students on the problem of sexual assault on campus. In partnership with the Title IX Office at Hampton University, this taskforce will work diligently to revitalize the existing Red Flag Campaign here on campus. HAMPTON, Va. (March 2, 2018) -- Hampton University is disappointed and perplexed by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference’s (MEAC’s) refusal to meet with University officials. Hampton University has repeatedly requested to meet with the MEAC to discuss this matter. Each time the MEAC has refused to meet with Hampton University.

(Mar. 1, 2018) — Hampton University is pleased to announce that alumna Ruth Carter, one of Hollywood most sought after costume designers and the first African-American costume designer to be nominated for an Academy Award will serve as the University’s 148th Commencement speaker on May 13, 2018. Dear Hamptonians, The Hampton University Administration has taken swift action to resolve issues revealed during and since last week’s town hall meeting. We have held a series of meetings with students across campus including student leaders, fraternities, sororities and an open meeting yesterday with students on the Virginia Cleveland lawn. All issues are being addressed and in the spirit of transparency a point-by-point summary follows.

(Feb. 22, 2018) — President Harvey called a meeting with the Hampton University Student Leaders and members of the Administration to discuss some of the issues that were addressed at the Town Hall meeting held in the Student Center Ballroom on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. HAMPTON, Va. (February 20, 2018) — Reports from athletic officials at some MEAC schools that Hampton University has opted out of playing Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) football opponents in the 2018 season are inaccurate and misleading. The truth is that Hampton University has offered to play a full schedule of MEAC football games in 2018, but the MEAC refuses to sit down and talk to Hampton University about any transition to the Big South Conference. Instead, they have issued a set of unreasonable demands which Hampton University finds totally unacceptable.
WASHINGTON, D.C. Lang has been called upon to refine, improve, and strengthen New Guidelines for Tomorrow’s Nonprofit (Second Edition), a new set of governing guidelines that supercharge nonprofit capacity-building.

According to Disney, the Marvel Studios film will total roughly $235 million over President’s Day weekend in North America alone.

As lead author of a study reported this week in Nature Astronomy, Heaven and a host of collaborators with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) suggest that planet-wide dust storms have played and are playing a significant role in the water loss on Mars.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (Jan 11, 2018) — Hampton University President Dr. William R. Harvey is donating the proceeds from his motivational book Principles of Leadership: The Harvey Leadership Model, which was recently published in China, to fund student scholarships at Hampton. The news was disclosed today by Julia Wilson, CEO and founder of Wilson Global Communications, who brokered the book deal with the Intellectual Property Publishing House Co., Ltd. in Beijing on behalf of Dr. Harvey.

(Nov. 21, 2017) – Back by popular demand, the Hampton University Chamber Orchestra and the University Concert Choir are joining forces again to perform Handel’s “Messiah.” The English-language oratorio will take place Sunday, Dec. 3 at 4 p.m. on campus in historically and acoustically rich Ogden Hall.

(Nov. 16, 2017) – Hampton University announced today that it joins the Big South Conference, effective July 1, 2018, after a 22-year relationship with the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. SAVANNAH, Ga. – Hampton University senior Jermaya Patterson didn’t waste one minute of her summer vacation. Instead of living a life of leisure, she’s given back to her hometown by helping young girls through a program she founded: “Black Girls Do STEM” (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The free program launched June 5 at a YMCA in Savannah, Ga.
The profound negativity expressed in words, actions and deeds over the last few days in the city of Charlottesville, Virginia cannot go unnoticed.
